2 of us teach the Bible to small children (not for a living, nor did we study it for a living...).
And sometimes these theological discussions carry over into real life - and by sometimes, I mean all the time. Words like "Calvinist," "Donatist," "Pelagian" make daily appearances in our house. "Hubris" has replaced the much less biblically-sounding "pride," songs must always be related to the eschaton, heresy counts are recorded.
It's been fun being constantly surrounded by people who care deeply about their faith, and has made me even more appreciative of my own upbringing. Growing up in a family and a church that encouraged Bible memorization, theological discussions, and knowledge of Bible stories, I never realized that some people don't have that in their lives. I knew that many people didn't grow up in Christian homes, but I guess I just assumed that everyone who grew up going to church knew the Bible. However, over the past few years, it has become increasingly clear to me how special and unique my experience has been. The Bible was always important in our home. And I've never been more thankful.
