So, my roommate has this thing about surprises.
She LOVES them.
But she especially loves scavenges. Therefore, I once left her a box of chocolate on Sven and another time attached a poem to his windshield. We also used to have this scavenge with a particular fruit sticker (you know, the ones that come on tangerines or apples or whatever to tell you where they're from? Yeah, we're not always super creative), however, I think said sticker has actually disappeared. Or someone threw it away.
Anyway, Michelle likes to leave scavenges anywhere she goes, including, apparently, airports. Good luck finding it:
"April 25. This is me. In LAX. After approximately 5 hours of travel, with 2 more to go. So don't judge my appearance, please. I look really tired. Anyways: Like many good ideas, this one began in France. By good, I refer to wine, cheese, and romance, not unshaven legs, topless beaches, and surrender to the Germans. Anyway, when I was fourteen, I went on an extended stay in Germany, during which I also vacationed (vacation during a vacation = awesome) in France. My parents and sister had been in France a month or two earlier with my dad on business, so they arranged to leave me a note at Mont Ste. Michelle. That, my friends, is where my love of scavenges (particularly those with an international flair) began. Unfortunately, the note they had left under a movable wooden bench (how prosaic) was no longer there by the time I arrived, no doubt partially due to the fact that the bench was also not there. Nevertheless, the idea was conceived in my mind. The next time I scavenged, I was in England a couple of months before Wendi, and I left her a few in Westminster Abbey. Success! She found it, tagged me on fb, and I felt the thrill of victory in my blood. I've left scavenges on islands in Canada, at Knapp's Castle in SB, the mission, other random places in SB, Chicago, Los Angeles... The list goes on. None in Pakistan, interestingly enough. Sometimes I realize my limitations. Anyway, today I had a three and a half hour layover in LAX, no free wifi (this is why I love SeaTac), and no one was texting me back. I did have an extensive amount of AChem to do, but like I said, sometimes I realize my limitations. So...I left a scavenge. This one, unlike many of the others, is not personalized (unless you're Calvinist, in which case, I wrote it for you) so first one to it wins. There are six (like I said, I had a bit of time) and unfortunately, they're all in terminal 4. So fly American. Sorry they are not more creative, it is hard to be subtle. If there had been no security these would be a lot better. 1. When sitting as close as you can to India, your right hand might feel an infelicity in the chair. This one will be found under the corner, under the infelicity. 2. The best way to find peace is to go to the end of terminal 4. Sit in the chair at the door of peace, reach with your left hand under this chair into the bar underneath. The hollow end presents a great spot for a hidden message. 3. When tall people get a drink of water in Brazil, their right hand under the back of the curve of the basin will encounter a surprise. 4. Getting to gate 44 is a challenge. Pretend you're up to it: enter the room and bear hard right. In the corner, sit in a chair. Looking at the first wall panel from the corner, between the bottom right corner of the panel and the door there is a word for you! 5. The Hudson is actually between Japan and India. It's a classic place, and hopefully this one won't have much turnover. If you want to find hope in the midst of war and peace, go to page 792. 6. This one's for the girls, sorry. The third one in under Brazil, if you close the door and look at the wall, in the top left corner where silver, gray, and black all meet there should be a slip of white. Alright! Sorry I didn't make them more creative, if only I had a five hour layover. Just kidding padre. Now it's time to do some chemistry. Enjoy the scavenge!"
